TrailerSlot
Which boat goes on which trailer, who tows which trailer: trailer planning for regattas and training trips, there and back.
The problem
A club takes its youth sailors' boats to regattas and training away from home waters, and parents tow the trailers. Who needs a space and who can tow is scattered across Spond comments, WhatsApp and email; the trailer coordinator assigns boats by hand and hunts for drivers. Mistakes often only show up on loading day, and the trip home is the risk: a driver drops out, a boat is left behind at the venue.
What it does
- Parents sign up via a link from the Spond chat: which child, there and back, whether they can tow
- Assign boats to trailers and drivers to trailers, separately for the outward and return trip, automatically if you like
- The plan goes back into the Spond chat as text; parents see which trailer their child's boat is on
- Tick off every boat when loading, and again at the venue for the trip home
- Trailers from a catalogue of common set-ups, from Optimist to ILCA and 420
- Large trips, such as a training camp: a table on the laptop, staggered arrivals and departures
Who it's for
Sailing clubs with a youth section that travel to regattas and training: the trailer coordinator or youth leader plans, parents sign up and tow.
State
A clickable prototype shows the whole flow and is being demonstrated to clubs. The app itself is being built for a pilot with my own club.
At a glance
- Web app
- Runs in the browser. On your phone, tap “Add to Home Screen” once and it opens like any other app: no app store, always up to date.
- No account for parents
- Parents only need the link from the Spond chat: no sign-up, no app from the store.
- Free for parents
- The club pays a yearly subscription, parents pay nothing.
- Alongside Spond
- Spond stays the club's channel: the link goes in, the finished plan comes back as text.
